Hot Chocolate
Description
The history of hot chocolate can be traced all the way back to ancient Mesoamerica, where cocoa beans originate from. Different variations of this drink exist around the world, ranging from a thick, almost chocolate sauce consistency, to a thinner, milkier variation. American hot chocolate is more of the latter, and is often topped with marshmallows or whipped cream. Feel free to adjust this recipe to your taste by adding more or less sugar and cocoa powder.
Ingredients
Makes 2 small cups or one large
1.5 cups whole milk
1 tbsp dark chocolate chips
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp sugar
1 pinch salt
Preparation
Add the chocolate chips and a splash of milk to a small pot and heat over medium-low. Melt and whisk until smooth. Add the sugar, cocoa powder & salt, and whisk until homogenous. Slowly pour in the milk a little at a time and whisk until smooth. Serve hot, optionally garnish with mini marshmallows.
Notes
Adjust the amount of sugar as you like - this recipe is more on the chocolatey side.
If you want a more mild version, add an extra 1/2 cup of milk.
For an added flavor boost, add a pinch of instant espresso powder.
