Homemade Baked Beans
Description:
This recipe is for standard baked beans that can be eaten as-is, or used as a base to make BBQ baked beans or Cowboy Beans. There’s nothing wrong with using baked beans from a can, but here is a basic recipe if you’d like to adjust this dish more to your taste preferences and make it your own.
Ingredients:
1 can pinto beans
2 tbsp molasses
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp mustard
2 strips bacon, cut into lardons
1/4 medium onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper
Preparation:
Add the bacon to a pot and heat over medium high. Cook until bacon is crispy and the fat is rendered out. Lower the heat to medium, add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Then add the molasses, ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce, and simmer for 10 minutes on low heat. You can add a splash or two of water if the mixture gets too thick. Season to taste with salt & pepper and enjoy.
Notes:
You can substitute the bacon for salt pork.
You can substitute the molasses with equal parts brown sugar.
