American Latte

Description

Coffee with milk has been a popular beverage in Europe for hundreds of years, and the latte is an American variation of this combination. Meaning “milk” in Italian, the name latte is believed to have been adopted from the Italian “cafe latte”, which is a similar coffee and milk drink. The American latte is most similar to an Italian cappuccino. The main difference between an American latte and an Italian cappuccino is the ratio of milk to coffee; a cappuccino is usually a 1:1 ratio, while a latte is 1:2 or 1:3 espresso to milk ratio. This beverage became popular in the US during the 1980’s, starting with baristas in Seattle ,Washington, and growing into global popularity from there.
